A MEM+SWYSS Project

In three words - educational, aesthetic, fun.

The magic of prairie grass roots is highlighted and explored as if a journey through Miss Frizzle’s Magic School bus. In the Roots Rambler, the ground lifts up, exposing the massive fibrous roots of the prairie grasses - to scale. With the fort entrances “underground”, kids of all ages hop and scurry through the roots on the ground, shimmy up through the bottom of the roots, pierce the ground plane and emerge onto the grassy plain above. The roots are constructed of a fluorescent array of rope, drawing attention to the underground and emphasize its magic. The roots’ feature-focus belies the rolling prairie-scape surrounding it, a cohesively sculptural environmental experience.
